Every Monday clients take turns going grocery shopping in a small group to our local Metro store to purchase the necessary ingredients for the Tuesday’s lunch menu.  Clients learn how to make their own meals, as per Canada’s food guide.  Our cooking class always begins with “Healthy choices lead to healthy living”.  On Friday’s the group collectively decides on the meal and establishes a grocery list so that shopping can take place on Monday as well as dessert baking and cooking on Tuesday. Clients take turns being a part of the various aspects of the program and while some cook others take on other tasks like setting the table. Once the meal is ready clients take turns serving their delicious meal.  The hard work from our chefs is complimented with applause while their names are being mentioned.  This great experience significantly contributes to their independence while also making it possible for them to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
